I believe that true wellness is about more than just physical, mental, or emotional health. It also includes your Spiritual health, which is often neglected or unrecognized as an essential part of wellness. This page will feature various topics on how to grow your spiritual awareness and strengthen your relationship with God.
If is funny how God works. We have all heard “God works in mysterious ways.” But until you have had something profound happen where you actually experience it, you do not fully recognize the power of this.
I am a forever student. I love to learn. Unfortunately, that learning includes some harsh life lessons. Even at my age (57 years), I am still learning His ways, and sometimes, He throws a heaping scoop of embarrassment on top of the awareness when He really wants me to learn my lesson. My teaching lesson this week has been about unconditional love.
Have you ever become so angered by someone that you became hypercritical, judgmental, and you felt hatred because they wronged (or sinned against) you? I have been there! Now our love has become conditional.
But this is not how God works. God does not love us conditionally. He loved us so much that He gave His son Jesus to save those who not only killed Jesus but tortured and mocked him as well. Jesus gave his life for all of us. No conditions. I know it can be extremely difficult to love unconditionally because we are imperfect. So, how do we learn to love as God loves us?
It starts with self-love with God. This is where unconditional love begins. Again, how do we learn this? First, recognize that you are worthy of love. You are worthy of God’s love. He loves you no matter what. He knows your heart. 1 Corinthians 13:4-8 defines unconditional love as being patient, slow to anger, kind, hopeful, and enduring through every circumstance. It also means that you do not keep account of injury. God does not hold guilt over you, so why should you do it to yourself?
The best way – the only way – you can develop unconditional self-love is to open your heart to God. You cannot do this on your own, with your own strength only. So lean into God, grow your relationship with Him by praying and reading His word. Let Him love you and He will open your heart to unconditional love.
